What are the three types of hardwood flooring?
There's a lot more to choosing the right hardwood than just color (although that is the fun part!) There are three major types of floors, and we include a description of each; as always, feel free to come into the Cherokee Floor Covering hardwood flooring showroom if you need further information.
Three types of hardwood boards
1. Unfinished: These are installed without any factory finish and, once placed, you can add a custom finish or leave it as is. There are a few reasons you might prefer this, including the broader selection of stains and finishes, giving you more control over sheen. Also, bevels, sloping surfaces to give dimension, and seams are less visible with this version. Finally, the surface tends to be smoother, as it's usually sanded between coats.
2. Factory finished: The advantage is that you know what you are getting and can start coordinating even before your wood floors arrive. Many also feel this finish is stronger since it's done in a controlled atmosphere with commercial-grade sealants that wouldn't be allowed in a home setting. There's no mess or odors with which to deal!
3. Reclaimed: This flooring has a unique charm and character and brings a rustic look and little history to your home. It usually is recycled from old barns, warehouses, wine barrels, factories, and even boxcars. Reclaimed wood is usually made of heartwood, the deepest of the deep part of the tree, and since it's recycled, it's incredibly eco-friendly but can also be scarce since that supply is somewhat limited.
